BM Offers Hardware Support Extension

POWER6 machines reached end of support on 3/31/2019, with the end of support for many POWER7 models following in September.  Many companies are still running these models, and they are looking for options.  In the past, IBM has not offered extended hardware support, but things have changed, and there is a new option available for those of you who won’t be able to move off old hardware before the end of support dates.

If you run IBM i on IBM Power Systems, this will hopefully come as a friendly reminder. IBM has discontinued hardware support on POWER6 machines, followed by end of support for POWER7 at end of Q3 2019.  You can find details on servers affected by the service discontinuation in the below announcement. Do you still have an old “System i, “iSeries” or “AS/400” in your shop? Do you know the date it’s going out of support? January 31st, 2019 you’ll see the POWER5 9405-520 and 9406-520 models go away.
