I’ve been doing quite a bit of Domino upgrades to 10.0.1 and 11.0.1 recently. What HCL has done in terms of product updates have been outstanding. Their documentation however leaves a lot to be desired. I can’t seem to find any decent documentation for upgrading Domino to 11.0.1.
So, I’ve built my own installation instructions for you.
First, you’ll have to set your environment variable of DOMINO_INSTALL_TYPE. Most shops I’ve been upgrading are enterprise servers, which is a 2. Use the following command:
ADDENVVAR ENVVAR(DOMINO_INSTALL_TYPE) VALUE(2)
Then you’ll need to download the Domino 11.0.1 for IBM i executable from HCL. You need to run the executable, which will then unpack three files: QNOTES, QNOTESAP and QNOTESRL. These are product options *BASE, 1 and 11 respectively.
Transfer the QNOTES, QNOTESAP and QNOTESRL to save files on your IBM i partition. You can just FTP them over. Personally, I just toss them into QGPL and delete them after the upgrades have been completed.
Once you’ve transferred the files, you have to restore the new licensed programs for Domino 11.0.1 with the following commands.
RSTLICPGM LICPGM(5733D11) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(QGPL/QNOTES)
RSTLICPGM LICPGM(5733D11) DEV(*SAVF) OPTION(1) SAVF(QGPL/QNOTESAP)
RSTLICPGM LICPGM(5733D11) DEV(*SAVF) OPTION(11) SAVF(QGPL/QNOTESRL)
Note that the licensed programs no longer reference “LD” to distinguish the product as “Lotus Domino.” It’s now “D” only for Domino. A big part of the Domino 11 effort was to rebrand everything away from the old Lotus label.
If you have any Traveler servers, you would’ve also downloaded the latest Traveler save file called QNTSINSTF and moved it over to IBM i as well. You can restore that one with the following command:
RSTLICPGM LICPGM(5733D11) DEV(*SAVF) LNG(2924) OPTION(21) SAVF(QGPL/QNTSINSTF)
Now you’ve got Domino 11.0.1 licensed programs installed concurrently along with your existing Domino servers, you’ll have to upgrade them…which is the easy part.
Shut down the Domino servers, then use the UPDDOMSVR command to update to the latest release.
Once they’re updated, you can start those servers and you should see them all at 11.0.1.
There is a bug if you’re upgrading from Domino 11.0.0. If you go that route, be aware that the server will still be labeled as Domino 11.0.0 after you upgrade it. You’ll need to manually update the server’s library, exepath and currel in the LOTUS_SERVERS file (what did I just write about rebranding…grrrrr). This file is located under /qibm/userdata/lotus.
If you have a Traveler server to update, be sure to run the UPDNTSDOM command before starting that server back up.
And that’s it! Now you can take advantage of all the cool things that HCL has been cooking up for the last two years.
